The fabulous Dancehall Qs & Hucklebuck Shoes Irish Showband Show

They were the pop idols of yesterday, stars from an incredible era in Irish Entertainment when fans went crazy over  Showbands. Tens of thousands of revellers  flocked to ballrooms around Ireland in the 60s & 70s to bop the night away  to the  original supergroups, The Showband Superstars.

Now the legends from those halycon days have inspired a stage musical, 'Dance Halls Qs & Hucklebuck Shoes' in which a new young generation of singers  step  into the  sharp suits and  hucklebuck  shoes of the  showband icons to relive the memories of those great days.

After their sensational performance on 'The Late Late Show' it is no wonder that crowds are again  flocking to hear the nostalgic  music of yesteryear in this fabulous show . The Show was devised and produced by Hugh Hardy, himself a former Showband Manager.

"At the height of Showband mania dancers used to queue up from 7 pm to make sure that they got into the ballrooms," recalls Hugh, "and that’s where the first part of the show’s name comes from, the Dance Hall Qs. " Hucklebuck Shoes" was a follow-up to ‘The Hucklebuck’ and it’s as popular to-day as when it topped the charts in 1964,” added Hugh.

Dancehall Qs and Hucklebuck Shoes recreates the ultimate unique Showband sound and recaptures the singing styles of those first Irish Superstars like Brendan Bowyer, Butch Moore, Dickie Rock, Eileen Reid, Brendan O'Brien, Joe Dolan, Sean Dunphy,  Doc Carroll and the popular Northern band, The Freshman. Showband singers that topped the Irish charts almost on a weekly basis throughout the 60s.

This show promises to relive this incredible era in Irish entertainment by taking a musical trip back in time and down memory lane.

RTE star Ronan Collins, a former drummer with Dickie Rock's band, sets the scene of the times and narrates the interactive show on a massive video screen.

There are over 250 old Showband photographs that are projected on to the big screen throughout the show while the seven Lead Singers are backed by The Hucklebuck Showband led by Ronan Dooney who is best known for his superb trumpet playing on the sound-track of ‘The Commitements’. Ronan’s solo trumpet of ‘Oh My Papa’ as a tribute to Hugo Quinn, trumpet player with the first showband "The Clipper Carlton" is one of the many outstanding tributes during the show.

The spectacular two and a half hour show contains thirty one No 1 Showband Hit Songs including "The Hucklebuck", "From the Candy Store", "Little Arrows", "Walking The Streets in The Rain", "Wedding Dress", "Good Lookin' Woman", "If I Could Choose", "Little Arrows", "Papa Oo Mow Mow", "Don’t Lose Your Hucklebuck Shoes ‘ and many many more.
