We're planning an "Oíche Ghaelach", Irish Night, probably on Wednesdays in a Dublin city centre venue. Your support will be appreciated.
Irish speakers are invited to come along and enjoy an evening mostly through Irish with traditional music and the best of songs in Irish. Although it is hoped that the Irish language will be dominant throughout the evening that will depend on those who attend. As the venue is in the tourist area of Dublin sufficient courtesy will be extended to non-Irish-speaking visitors to facilitate their enjoyment of the event without forgetting the purpose of the evening which is to showcase the Irish language, Irish songs, and Irish music.
This "Oíche Ghaelach" is not intended to be a typical “Plastic Paddy” night but rather something that could be broadcast on Raidió na Gaeltachta or TG4.
Each night’s entertainment will be based on those artistes who agree to turn up and sing a song or play a tune. If you are interested and can help get this off the ground either as a supporter or a performer please contact us here by e-mail or by phone 01-6104442.
We particularly want to hear from groups of Irish-speaking musicians who would be willing to take turns on alternate nights playing at a session in the venue and who would allow other musicians to sit in with them and play along and observe “omós don amhrán” (respect for the song) when singers are called. A performance fee will be paid to a small group of musicians each week and "Special Guests" will be invited occasionally. Why not contact us and tell us who you would like to see there? Contact us by e-mail or by phone 01-6104442 .
The first part of the evening -- say from 9.00 till 10.30 pm -- will be regulated by "Reachtaire na Cóisire" but afterwards everyone is free to enjoy the rest of the evening as they wish.
As soon as sufficient musicians, singers, and supporters, make themselves known to us by e-mail or by phone 01-6104442 we will announce a date for the first "Oíche Ghaelach" and name the venue. Hopefully we will hit the ground running and make it worth while for the venue to set aside an evening for the Irish language on subsequent weeks throughout the summer.
If past experience is anything to go by we will be able to audition and showcase a number of good acts that we could recommend for private or corporate events at home and abroad during these sessions. Good Gigs Music Agency already has considerable experience in this field and will be delighted to assist Irish-speaking Acts in getting gigs.
That's the plan. If you have additional ideas please get in touch by e-mail or by phone 01-6104442
This "Oíche Ghaelach" is unaffiliated to any existing organisation and will not receive funding from any source other than the hospitality of the venue and the support of the Good Gigs Music Agency. |
